OUR STORY
Purple Heart Racing NC began as two Veterans saw a need to support and assist homeless Veterans by combining their efforts in a sport of competition and speed.
Andrew Thompson and Michael Lane returned from active duty at different times. Over the years they quickly became confidants, sharing their stories and memories about how serving their country had impacted their lives. Andrew is a Purple Heart Veteran of the Vietnam War and Mike served in the Navy on the USS Harry S. Truman. Andrew is directly affected by multiple disabilities sustained during his service in Vietnam. Mike fortunately experienced no injury during his years of service.
Andrew and Mike began searching for ways to support their fellow vets, primarily the homeless Veterans. Their common passion for racing led them to discover that Kart Racing was among the fastest growing motor sports in the United States. Andrew Thompson and Michael Lane set out to prove to everyone that a disability did not have to hinder your pursuance of a dream.
As fellow servicemen the two decided to join forces and put "wheels on the dream" to help end Veteran homelessness. Purple Heart Racing NC has been a driving force in helping homeless Veterans ever since.
